Like DruzoTito said, no guarantees on FTA channels. However, RTS and MKTV have been there FTA for more than 1 year now. What you should do is buy an FTA system (receiver,dish,LNBF). If the channels become encrypted in the future, then you can only swap the receiver and subscribe. The FTA receiver can be sold on eBay since many other people (Arabic, Asians,
Iranians, Europeans, etc) would be interested in buying it from you.
Even if you lose $50-60 when you sell your FTA receiver, that is the equivalent price you would have to pay for 2-3 months of service if you consider subscription. But, the pleasure your father will have watching these channels right away will be priceless
