Affect of temperature on outside parts?
I have worked in areas with outside temperatures ranging from -40F to +130F and am challenged by by both materials and electronics. That said, here are my questions:
What is your record high/low where your equipment worked just fine? Please give make and model so we all learn.
Has anyone had experience with H-H motors failing in extreme temperature?
Has anyone had experience with LNBFs failing in extreme temperature?
Did they: stop working? crack? fall apart? run inside crying?
I ask because my experience with consumer electronics is a general naivete' on the impact of environmental conditions on operating requirements. The automotive industry is rather good at it after all these years, but I do remember more than on car radio that would not work at -10F. It was a long cold drive... and boring.
I have written environmental requirements in the past, and made source selections based on a manufacturers commitment to those environmental requirements.
All of this is prompted by the cold spell going through the United States and Canada.
So, share your stories and facts. It would be nice to see warranted environmental operating specs for more equipment.
