High frequency splitters are seldom used in residential applications; the only time I have used them is for installing a pair of SW44's in tandem to run up to 8 receivers from a dual bird dish. In this case only one port is power passing because as Michael says it is bad to have both receivers feeding voltage out to the LNBs; you can damage one or both receivers. Another application of high frequency splitters is for commercial applications where you have a power inserter near the LNB and you don't require the receivers to provide voltage; in this case DC blockers are used. But for typical residential setups - splitters are a no-no.
