That "newer TIVO" thing isn't 100%. When I bought my newest TIVO, they had been out with TIVOs that used the internet for quite a while, but the model I got (something like an R10 or something) did NOT have internet access, even though older and newer models did. Actually, there was some comment about "not implimented in this model", either in the manual or one of the screens. I think it has the internal NIC, but it just isn't handled by the software. I should check again. Perhaps they have a new firmware that does do internet. Last time I checked they didn't have any toll free phone numbers near me, but it's been a while since I"ve tried.
