I know they do this sort of thing with the VCII analog channels, but I still haven't seen an example of this with the DCII channels. I think we discussed this once before and you gave one example, but it was from way in the past or something, ie not current, so I couldn't check it out. Since this person has an un-subbed receiver now, it might be a good test to see just what encrypted channels are available free with one sub. Ie what I'm guessing is the case is that until you have your receiver authorized, you probably can only receive ZK signals, and except for music channels, there are very few of them. However once authorized, I'm guessing that you can get channels that are FP, which are encrypted with a fixed key. This is the way it was with the 4200 commercial receivers, ie until once authorized, they only got ZK, but after authorized, even if reset to factory thereafter, they will get FP too (and one bad firmware version made the 4200s revert to the ZK only mode on being reset). Since virtually all 4200s are used, most have been authorized at one point in time.
I know it's possible that there are other modes that make some encrypted channels free, like they have with the VCII, but I've never seen an example of it. Ie any time I've heard of free 4DTV channels, they've typically been FP things. Anyway, just curious. Hopefully Ski5010 will post about what he finds free.
