thanks for the link. i still havent picked a dish yet. but i think i am going to go with a 6 foot dish. i just dont want to cause a fuss with the home owners association. for the most part they are tolerant of such things only because we have no cable options. but i just want to be left alone so i will go with the smallest and also the nicest dish i have found for $100. i hope the size isnt going to be that big of a deal? any thoughts on that?

I wouldn't go below 8.5' on the dish for c band if you get a nice mesh dish it won't look as big as a solid due to you can see the background thrugh it so it kind of blends in.

I agree with Rainman. 8.5' mesh would be a much better choice. If you are worried about the HA present the item prior to install. On a side note if you really want to be left alone move to an area with no HA Greed motivates many people. Perhaps nothing more than a couple dollars in key peoples hands might smooth the process along. You can also try (if you have children) explaining the problems with current programming and bundled packages with little dishes vs. the ability to sub to only the channels you desire on the big dish making it a far more family friendly choice for television programming. Your main desire being to raise responsible children with strong moral and ethical values. Nobody wants hoodlums running their neighborhoods

good reasons indeed. but why are they're so many 6 footers around if they dont work. if anyone has first hand experience with this problem i would love to hear from you. i have had my eye on this 6 footer that looks really new and nice and i think would soften the blow so to speak with the neighbors. i am by no means saying you guys are wrong but man this dish is in great shape and free! but it is a big undertaking and i want the maximum results from my dish. so anyway...................i am trying to satisfy my thirst for C BAND and not get squawked at by fools. am i delusional?

we're not saying that a 6 footer won't work just that a 8.5 footer works better. better signal and quality. and when you get in the area where sats are 2 degrees apart with similar TP freq you have more bleed over with a 6 footer than with the 8.5. if i could find one i would set up a 12 footer.

From what I have heard the 6' dishes were basically used to point at G5 when it was loaded with programming. Not really installed with anything else in mind. I can not say how it will or will not work but for me 10' one piece spun alum. is minimum and I am using 8.5' mesh dishes. There is a 6' dish right around the corner from my house. I might stop in and ask them how it works but then again they are most likely not using it for MPEG2.

A 6' will work, it just doesn't work well. I'm running a 7.5' and have run into issues with bleed and (in the case of HBO) simply not enough dish to get enough signal to pull them in. IF you are planning to go Ku band only, then a 6' should work well for you.

The biggest drawback with the 4DTV in general is that the DCII is older technology and is being replaced with higher compression DVB. The biggest PLUS of 4DTV is the picture quality (once you get your dish ligned up right) of the original programming and being able to select (to a point) what channels you want. (Of course, this is only my opinion.)

Another GREAT resource for C-band is 4DTV Satellite Forum - The Best in Satellite TV
