Hou to watch CCTV4 & CCTV9 on Galaxy 3 (95 W)
If you have an analog system already pointing to Galaxy 3, all you have to do is swap your receiver with a digital one from our list here:
http://sadoun.com/Sat/Order/Receivers.htm
These two digital channels ( CCTV-4 & CCTV-9) are currently available FREE on the following transponder. There are no monthly or annual service fees to pay to watch these channels at this time:
Freq: 11780
Pol: Hor.
S/R: 20760
If you have any questions or to order a digital receiver, please don't hesitate to contact us at 888-519-9595.

Can you verify this again to make sure that the your receiver will be able to receive CCTV4 and CCTV9? I live in Boston and some local store sells some receiver specific for CCTV4 and it requires a smart card for decoding the signal. Or is there one of your receiver model will work with this smart card? I don't know much about this smart card.
Thanks for your information.

Just want to make sure:
1. You mean to receive CCTV4 from the Galaxy 3, not CCTV4 on other Satellites?
2. Why in another thread(CCTV4 should remain free to air in usa) in Chinese TV group, they said they had to use Satmex5 to receive free CCTV4. For Galaxy 3, the CCTV4 has been encrypted.
Thanks for your answers.

CCTV4 and CTV9 are not scrambled on G3C at this moment, so you can use any digital DVB receiver to receive them. Rumor says that they will be scrambled around March of this year (2003), so you best bet is that you go out and buy the decoder and smart card supplied by phoenix TV for about $260, which I think is outrageously expensive ! I would use that money for something more important !

Thanks Baatar,
Anyway, I think that if I spend more than $300 to buy a receiver, I like it to be more universal as possible and can read more different kinds of access cards ( I don't how many different access cards avaliable on market) so that I don't want to end up one receiver just for one chanel. About CCTV4, Phoenix and other scrambled channels, Is there any universal receiver that works with their access cards so that I just need to buy only the card from them? Even better if it can work with DirectTV/dishnetwork(with their cards) and my digital cable? Even the best, can receive HDTV signal from satellite and cable. ha, Real tough consumer...
Thanks again for answers.

Harry,
I don't think so. CCTV4 uses Irdeto card, and theretically you can use a CAM, but I heard that phoenix would not sell you their CCTV4 Irdeto card, they want to sell you the whole set to make more money. Also the CCTV4 decoder can only receive one transponder, that renders it useless if you want to use it for other satellite. The receiver you want (can do dish and directv, also HD, and other ethnic channels) does not exist, as far as I know of.

Thanks for your quick reply.
1. Why I cannot only buy the Irdeto card? How does phoenix collect $15.00 fee every year? only allow register user(who bought receiver from them) to buy it? I guess it would be more difficult for them to manage the customer service if they don't sell the Irdeto card individually? Some customers may not be the origianl buyers. Sorry for my little knowledge in this area, prob
2. I don't mind change the Irdeto card when receiving signal from another satellite if I don't need to open the box.
Do you have any suggestion for the receivers priced at $300~$400? Thanks a lot. My parents are coming from the China and watching the TV is the only thing probably they can do to know what is happening outside.

My guess is they will authoriza the card for one year, then if you don't pay them it will become invalid. You need the authorization, not just the card. And as far as I know the card number and the decoder number has to be married. A lot of subscription based services in this country use the same trick, such as dish. You need to call the dish center to authorize your card. Glad to hear you parents are coming ! If they only are interested in watching CCTV4, then you don't have other choices, you have to spend that $260 to get the phoenix decoder. Otherwise, there are some free-to-air stations on Telstar 5, such as taiwan's MacTV, and falung gong's NDTV, and some buddhism's TVs.

Harry,
Take a look at this site !
http://www.emantechnology.com/AboutFTA.htm
By the way, both dish and directv offer chinese programming which includes CCTV4. about $30 a month. If your parents stay here temperilly, say 6 month or so, getting dish or directv is not that bad.
