help for the new guy

I am a novice, looking to buy and set up a satellite dish to be able to receive pheonix tv and other chinese channels for my Chinese wife.
Also to explore the other free to air channels available. I need to start from the very basics and need help in deciding what hardware is best for me and the pitfalls.

PheonixTV is not FTA. It's available on DishNet.
With a FTA system, you can get CCTV4,CCTV9 and a few others.
Most of the Chinese FTA on Telstar5. SatMex has some.

I was told that the LNB for CCTV is different from those used by English channels .
I want to be able to watch CCTV plus some English programms, but I don't know what equipment do I need to buy, is there anyone could give some advices? Can VP1020 work? What size of dish/kind of LNB do I need? Thanks.

AMC 4 has also chinese channels.
