Question Generic 4DTV questions

Hi,

Some questions.

1. Are there 4DTV channels in Ku, or just C-band only?

2. How are 4DTV channels identified in Lyngsat? Is it simply DC-II (digicipher 2)?

3. How do you know which DC-II channels are free or pay, from Lyngsat listing?

4. Why would people subscribe to 4DTV when most, if not all, those channels are available on Ku with DN or Direct TV subscription? (unless a 4dtv package is significantly cheaper than a comparable package from DN or DTV)?

1. they also have ku channels
2.the same way as DVB channels except they are DC II .
3.the free channels are in the tan colored boxes.
4. picture Quality the 4dtv has much better picture Quality than dish and direct.and the programing is some what cheaper.

Ok, for point #4...

Yeah, but the channels are spread across many sats, right? Which means the dish motor is moving back and forth.. yikes.. lots of wear and tear.. and several seconds wait to see your changed channel. heheh...

It's not like you would plant mulitple C-band dishes in your back yard or have mutiple LNBs to receiver different sats like you can with Ku dish. heh...

Really?

Man, I hate it when I change channel and it takes like 4-5 seconds for the picture to come up! So frustrating... (heh)... Also, the wear-and-tear on your motor to move and your LNB to flip from V to H polarity... heh.

I expect it to be quick as flipping channels watching regular OTA TV. heh.

I set my receiver in the skip mode so it only does vert channels to you scan through the vert channels then it does the horz channels so can do all 24 transponders with one polarity change.

If waiting is your complaint then do DN. My picture quality is superior to DN HD. I'll take PQ any day. My programming is also considerably cheaper. I also have more freedom of choice in programming along with more channels available when it comes to movies. My Starz/Encore lineup is 24 channels.

Yes which is what I do (Ala Carte). I rarely watch tv but when I do I prefer movies. It is cheaper than renting DVD's. I am paying $.60 a month per channel for Starz/Encore. If you sub to the analog signal (not many left) they give you the digital for free. Of course if you are not running a receiver that is digital capable that would mean nothing. Speed cost me $42.00 a year and is only available on Ku Digital. The other great thing about a 4DTV system is I can purchase programming from multiple providers. So if NPS has HBO/Cinemax for $x less than Skyvision (I forget who they use) and Skyvision has Starx/Encore for less than NPS I can buy HBO/Cinemax from NPS and Starz/Encore from Skyvision.

With DN & DTV you have as many choices as you might think for programming providers. 1 If they raise rates you pay more. If a provider raises rates on me I cancel and go with a different one. Sorry folks you will never talk me out of my big dish The DSR922 is worth every penny IF you are going to use it as it was intended to be used.

Yeah, my complaint is fast channel changing? (heh)... I'm your classic "channel surfer." short attention span..

As for PQ (picture quality?), currently my SD TV with S-video input and many FTA channels are crystal clear... heck, I've gone to the stores and have seen HD shows on demo and indeed they are even clearer than my S-video at home, but really, for me, my S-video quality is good enough on SD...

Well, I dont intended to get a 4DTV receiver anytime soon (unless maybe it goes under $100..heheh...dare to dream?), so I'll stick with whatever free analog NTSC channels are left, which aint much... shopping and religious stuff... hehe...

...though what I'd like to do soon is hook up my FTA box to get those DVB channels in C-band.... there's a few free ones, like CCTV on 91w I believe. heheh...

there are several c band digital channels on the different sat's across the arc but you won't be able to enjoy them all unless you are willing to move the dish.

Yeah, I realize that... I need to go to Lyngsat and figure the best sat that has the digital channels I want , then basically "park" my dish there.. heh..

Yes, I see.. and some Indian channels... now that I just cleaned out my remote I can use it to move the dish around a bit ... heheh... only a few handful of free NTSC channels left. d'oh... that would explain I havent used it for many years... I need to get back to C-band surfing and now that I have FTA receiver, I should be in for some fun, though Ku-band FTA channels dominate the spectrum.. heheh...

So, the "blind scan" feature on this old analog C-band really sucks compared to FTA receivers.

Hey, there's a free Disney channel FTA on c-band and Discovery is free too, via Lyngsat, havent verified it myself.
