Thanks that was a great review. Have you experimented with different type scalar rings / feedhorns?

One of these days I'll put it all together, and do an in depth review rather than ad-hoc comments.

There is no adjustment of the feedhorn part, as that is integral to the LNB in itself.

I did read that the flat scalar ring was designed for the prime focus dishes, and using this LNBF for an offset dish required the use of a conical scalar ring. VJ9999 and I did this same project around the same time, and he mentioned he was using the conical one, so I didnt even attempt to use the flat one that came with the LNBF. I just bought one when I bought the LNBF so I installed both at the same time.

There is some C-band DVB out there, but really need a bigger dish to get the full potential of receiving it. There are listings on Lyngsat that I just dont get a peep from on the Ultra.

Integrating an analog receiver does open up things to more stuff, but it's not a clean solution when it's slaved off the Ultra. It's back & forth between the 2 units to look for stations.

I would love to try a 1.8m offset dish with the new H180 Motor and this LNBF with the proper scalar ring. I don't even think the conical one is the most ideal one to use. It is better than the flat one, though.

Here is the new H180:* Moteck HH Mount Motor for 180cm (6ft) C-Band prime focus dishes

180cm (6ft) offset dish is almost equivalent in performance and gain to a 240cm (8ft+) Solid Prime focus dish.

While all this talk and trials with smaller dishes for C Band (there are some 5 - 6' dishes in use where I live) is very interesting I just come from the old school. Bigger is better. Really big fan of one piece spun alum dishes. If I had my way I would have 15 or maybe even 18' dishes in the yard I am starting to lean towards cosmetics though so having the 2 8.5' mesh dishes on opposing sides of the yard pointed in opposite directions does make for a cleaner visual Just need to paint them to match.
    8.5' Mesh Dish w/ C & Ku lnb's & 24" actuator
8.5' Mesh Dish w/ BSC621-2 fixed install for circular C Band on 40.5
    Fortec Star 90cm Dish w/ FSKUv lnbf & DMSISG2100
    Motorola DSR922
    Fortec Mercury II
    Digital Stream HD1150.

I'm going to have to side with elgemcdlf on this one. To do C band right, it really requires a good sized dish. 18 foot though is a bit on the extreme... after a rain I suppose one could use for kidde pool during the summer.

I did know that the LNB and support arms in the way of a prime focus dish do get in the way, so offset does provide a bit better size/performance.
Maybe that's why the 4 foot offset works almost as well as 6 foot prime.

But 6 foot might still be too small. The research I've done says 8 works, but 10 is what's really required. You mention 6 foot offset dish. I didnt know one was available from Fortec?

Commenting on the 180 dish mover, well as it's not available yet and no one has installed it makes me skeptical.
I dont want to be the 1st guy on the block to drop that much coin on dish, mover, and the Vbox to get it.

I did read horror stories on the original Vbox. I have not seen any write-ups on the VboxII model yet. And the issues are diseqc 1.2 from receiver is needed (so no usals?). Yet another item in the way...

A 6' is OK signal strength wise for most signals, but 10 is required to get separation from sats 2 degrees away. A 10' dish has a C-band resolution in the range of around 1.7 degrees, but a 6' dish is nearly 3 degrees, so you get interferrence from nearby sats. Many of the old 6 foot dishes were sold for th G5 subscription channels years ago, and they worked fine, but I doubt that they work as well now that G10 and G13 are along side. But yes, bigger is better as long as the quality is equal.

Bigger is better by all means. But for some limited budget and limited space people, whatever you can get by would be fine.

The V-BOX II is a much improved positioner than the original V-BOX. I have heard very nice reviews of the VBII on Satguys. Maybe some of the V-BOX II users on this board could add their feedback here or on a separate thread.
