I don't agree that being metal makes them better. The problem with encased mesh is that you don't really know what is inside, however if it's a quality dish, it can be fine on Ku. There is no reason that mesh is worse than solid metal, provided that the mesh is fine enough and of good shape. Actually encased mesh can be better, since the substrate can help it stay in shape, whereas a flimsy metal dish can be bent out of shape easily, and be worthless before you get it installed.
I'm sure you've read the complaints on the other forum about even the 1M fortec dishes being of poor shape, and while I'm guessing that they are probably not representative of Fortec quality, but more likely cases of dishes being bent during shipping, I think it demonstrates that being metal isn't all that is needed. You also need that metal to be shaped properly, and of rigid enough construction to keep that shape.
Anyway, I think quality is more important than the material, and just the fact that it is metal doesn't mean much.
