Getting a C band system for free
Guys,
A person has offered to give me free an entire c-band system. This includes the 7.5' mesh dish, polarotor, 17 degree C LNBF, receivers, etc. Question is:
1) Is this a good deal for me or a headache?
2) I think that I am getting a DGII or 4DTV receiver with this, is it harder to setup vs. Ku.
Thanks.

If it is mesh, see if a pencil will fit through the holes. If it does, then KU is pretty much out of the question
Is the dish is pretty good shape?

Re
Ice,
Don't know. This person used to own his own TV station and has worked with this stuff for 30+ years, he knows his stuff. He said that the LNB is only a year old(pretty new) and that the dish is ready to be removed. He said that I could dissasemble the sections myself and that they would fit into my car. I will keep my 36" Fortec dish seperate for KU.

Just to add
I could use my Fortec Classic NA to get the DVB programming FTA, dont know if I want to spring for an NPS sub though. Maybe some can shed some light on this too, thanks.

LOts of C-Band FTA stuff up there. I don't have a subscription to that stuff either. I enjoy the free DVB stuff and am looking forward to this fall with sports feeds

If it actually comes with a 4DTV receiver (read that as a 922) it is worth the effort to haul it all away just for the receiver. Would definitely be worth my while to pick it up if I were close. Just a different animal but setup is the same as your little dish in concept.

I do not remember the amount of concrete required to set the post. If I remember correctly it is something like 500lbs for a 8.5' dish. I have heard the hole should be dug in a cone shape spreading out as you go deeper. I am getting ready to plant one and am going to have my neighbor dig the hole with a post hole digger (3 pt). Going to start with a 15' pole and leave about 9 or 10 feet above ground level.
Hit www.satforums.com for setup info.

The person that is giving this system to me said that it comes with a really heavy duty frame mount, kind of like the one that Sadoun sells for the Ku dishes to place on a roof with sand bags or c- blocks. I am going to mount on the ground, for now. Don't really need to dig or use cement for this (at least thats what he says). Won't be able to get the "whole arc" as I have several trees in the way. I think that I can get from 80W to 110W with no relocation.

they recommend 1 80 lb bag of cement for every 1 ft of dish.

All of the above, Hahaha...
I have a line on a 6' mesh with a ground mount and a Toshiba TRX-80 analog receiver for $75.00 I'm gonna grab.. This guy will deliver and set it up for me, as I'm disabled, for another $100.00 which is actually pretty good considering he's at least an hour drive away..
And I'm also interested in a Ku motorized system..
