C band/4dtv help

I just installed a 4dtv receiver to my old c-band system. All worked with the old analog receiver. I have all running, but cannot get W1 and the network channels. I got them last night with a signal reading of 100 and a quality reading of around 36 (best I could get). Now this morning after it reset to G1-3 I can not get any quality reading and fine tuning does not work. I talked to NPS and they suggested that the LNB may be going bad - that when starting to go bad it can loose one satelitte or channels froma a satelitte. Can anybody confirm this? Would like to get it in for the NBA game tonight.
Also, this may sound kind of stupid - but here it goes. If I have to replace the LNB, what is the best. Also if I add Ku to this do I have to add another Coax all the way to the house or is there some type of combiner/splitter that I can install at the dish and where it comes in the house? I would like to get all the channels I can as I have a FTA unit to hook up too. Please let me know ASAP.. THANKS.

Follow-up to my question, with no response. In the evening I start to get W1 - 500's - but with a max quality of around 36. During the day I can't get anything. Also cannot program any satelittes east of T7. From T7 west all satelittes programmed and all channels perfect. Any ideas on what the problem is? I have a 10' fiberglass dish, never have had any problems with this. It is old - all components - probably 15 years or so. Can this be related to the LNB going or something in the horn. Am not real familiar with the electronic workings of the C-Band dish. Anyway to test out what could be wrong? Also just FYI - when it first starts receiving in the evening the signal will be at 100 but flash from 20 to 100 at times, and the quality will sometimes flash from 5 to 36. Really would appreciate any help or direction on this. Thanks.

"with no response" ...

I think you'll find that most of the guys that hang around here, post a lot of help responses, know more about Ku band stuff than C band.

So, it might take a week, or more for someone to happen upon your question, and might have some opinions on an answer.

it sounds like your lnb has become temp senstive. as for adding ku you will have to run another coax cable. i would recommend nortsat 8115 c band lnb should handle the 4dtv with no problems.

Ok here we go. To add Ku yes you will have to run a second coax cable but it most likely is there already provided the original install used ribbon cable. You will need to change the feedhorn as I would bet yours is C band only.

Now to the Motorola receiver you just installed and it's workings. Your old receiver was far less sensitive or should I say you did not require as precise alignment as the Motorola. I am guessing you purchased a 922 receiver which is a MPEG2 receiver and these signals are compressed and very touchy. Even on C Band The bigger the dish the harder it is to center on signal. Sounds strange but true. Larger dishes have larger side lobes.

Your dish is severly out of alignment. Your readings for quality are way to low. You should be close to 100 and 100 all the way across the board with a properly aligned dish of that size. Especially solid. I am assuming playing with skew is not helping. You are aware there is a 90 rotation in skew from H to V?

As to not landing properly I would start by manually moving the dish into signal with the receiver. Now mark the pole and mount with a piece of chalk or something. Ok run on out to G0. Now tell the receiver to go back to W1 (our marked sat). Check your marks. Are they aligned?

If not either the hall effect switch in the actuator is going out OR your mount is loose/worn or binding somewhere. The Motorola receiver will require a reasonably tight mount. If you are going to incorporate Ku on this dish you will have to have a slop free mount and perfect or at the very least near perfect alignment.

Use the FTA receiver to help you with alignment issues as it is even more sensitive than the Motorola when it comes to reading signal.

As to any delay in response time. Considering what you have paid for any knowledge you have received here at an all volunteer support forum I would think the response time was quite good. Unless you wish to pay someone's transportation, lodging & $xxx.xx /hr to work on it for you.

The concept for aligning the dish is the same as outlined at www.sadoun.com under support and motorized installation.

By the way while C band is listed here and many members here do play with it this is primarily a small dish Ku community. Not trying to discourage you just pointing out a fact.

P.S.
Try www.satforums.com some real serious 4DTV people there.

Thanks for the reply. At least this is a start and I can go forth and figure this out. I think for now I will skip the Ku band as the programs on the C-band are more than ample. The reply time was great, no complaints from here.

One more note. Even though some here play with C Band even fewer have 4DTV Watch for signature files as to who does and who does not.

If you do not want to attempt working on the dish yourself, there may be a dealer in your area on this list:
http://onsat.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=12&sid=fe4bd31cba25b7c4d6ced01c948 ed3aa

Sounds to me your dish is off of the arc.
