G13 Aiming Help!
Hi All,
I am trying to aim my 32" dish at Galaxy-13 for all Chinese Channels, but have no luck so far. Everything is dead on as far as the elevation, Arzimuth, and skew are concerned. I wonder if a 0.8dB LNB would make a different in this case. I've tried SATMex -5 and still failed. Any suggestioins are welcome. Thanks!

further trying can only give me lots of channels from the Echo-Star that I am not sure of why? This symptom is similair to someone in this forum once ran into it. Regardless, I wonder if it's neccessary to add in the megnetic deviation values? Any comment will be appreciated!

We do have the same problem. I think it could be that the echostar and G13H1 are so close physically and close also in the TP frequency. The signal from Echostar overwelthms the signal from G13H1. I am exausted with my try. If you have any progress, please let me know (maxinusa2000@yahoo.com). Thanks in advance.

What Echostar satellites are nearby? The closest one is Echostar 9 which is 6 degrees away and unlikely to interfere. If you are seeing Echostar stuff you dish is definately not aligned and/or pointing nowhere near H1.

I finally found Galaxy-13! Yes, the bird is very touchy and hard to catch. It has taken me almost one week to get it. There are several factors involved in my case to make the whole thing work and believe everyone's is slightly different. I move about 1.5 degree down from my Elevation, Subtract 5 deg. from the Arimuth and keep the skew number unchanged. Once you have these parameters down, try to move the dish with a very steady hand at 1/8" a time. Never move continuously. It's good to move and stop to check for the signal. Be sure not to use the SAT-Finder in this case is because it will beep loudly from a strong signal of the adjacent SAT or so and doesn't even show any quality % at all. After learning this lesson the hard way, I strongly recommend to use the Advance Scan option in Fortec ( Lifetime-Ultra ) menu to monitor the signal as you move. Don't forget to set DF for 11720, SR for 26.800 and Horizontal for Polarity. From my location, I get 86 for Level and 74 for quality. Hope this will help for folks living in Houston.

Glad to hear you find the sat you want, but your advice is a bit misleading....:-)
Skew/tilt is different for each satellite. If you move from G10R or SatMex to H1, not much skew differences there. But let say if one moves the dish from T5 to H1, there are BIG changes in skew/tilt value.
Here is a trick for those who plan to reaim the dish from one sat to another (let say from sat1 to sat2).
Assuming to get good lock on sat1. Go to sadoun online calculator:
1. Find the azimuth/elevation for sat1
2. Find the azimuth/elevation for sat2.
Once you have all the info of these 2 sats, you will have very good idea on:
1. How far and what direction (EAST or WEST) you have to move the dish.
2. How much higher/lower of the elevation you have the adjust the dish.
Also, make sure change the skew as well.

Michael,
I am not sure if your comments is accurate is because I have been talking about trying to get the same signal from G-13 and nothing but G-13. Although I briefly mentioned SATMex-5, it was just a quick test to see if I would get anything from it. And Of course by going into a different SAT, there will be a whole new set of number. I mean Ele, Arz, and Skew. I am certain other members in this forum will know this first hand once they punch in the Dish Calculator.

Hi, Michael,
You said G13 is not Ku satellite. You mean we can not use Ku band LNBF then?
What kind of LNBF should we use?

The Ku satellite at 127W is Horizons 1. G13 is C band satellite at that location. To get chinese channels on Horizons 1 you need a Ku LNB (universal or standard).

You may want to try a more powerful LNBF (e.g. 0.3 db), not 0.8db. Your location is in much better shape than mine (East coast)

Re: G13 Aiming Help!
Finally, we all got it. Actually the signal is quite strong after all the angles are adjusted to the right ones. I cann't believe the elevation is so low( the dish center line elevation is about 18 degree). In my case, I did not adjust the elevation low enough, also the other satellite signal confused me. Anyway, thanks to all the guys here.

Max678,
It's good to hear that you finally got G13/H1. I upgraded my old 0.8 LNB to a Fortec 0.4dB yesterday and have noticed that the quality level jumps from 72 to 84. This is really amazing on what a good LNB can do.

Thanks, Phil. I got 0.4 db LNB already.
After I catched the G13, three of my friends want to shift their dishs to G13, and also other three want to buy new dishes now since there are so many chinese programs to watch.

Re: Question for setting up Echostar9 to see Chinese TV prog
Did Dish network lock the Greatwall platform?
If so, you can not get it by FTA system.
You have to check you manual to see how to add /edit satellite or TP.
