How to point my dish to Telstar5 and Galaxy3c?

I live in NJ, My Home's longitute -74.87; latitute 40.87

How do I calculate Azimuth and Elevation to Telstar5 and Galaxy3C?

I found this site, is this accurate? Is there a calculator available on the web?

Galaxy3C 95oW Azimuth =208.87, Elevation=39.00
http://www.lyngsat.com/tracker/g3c.shtml

Telstar5 97oW Azimuth =211.44, Elevation=38.21
http://www.lyngsat.com/tracker/t5.shtml

Thanks in advance.
Jack

T5 is at 97 W
G3C is at 95 W

Use the calculator here to get your dish angles:

http://sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/S...Calculator.htm

Your long/latitude values should be positive.

Compensate for the magnetic deviation to get your magnetic azimuth (the angle on the compass)

Re: do I need two dish to watch

Yes, you need 2 dishese to get these 2 satellites since there are are 2 degrees apart. It's impossible to get both on the same dish.
Or you can get a h-h mount to move the dish so you can get all the viewable satellite in your location, assuming it's installed correctly.

These are the short forms for the satellite names; G3C is Galaxy 3 and T5 is Telstar 5. As Michael says you will need two dishes and a DiSEqC switch to hook up your receiver to pull in both satellites. Even though they are only 2 degrees apart and it may be tempting to try to hit them both with one dish -- I've done it but it takes a little sheet metal work to make it fly  ; better off with 2 dishes.

Re: do I need two dish to watch

I rephrase my post. Yes, it is possible using one dish to get signal from 2 sats which are 2 degs apart, but it depends on lots of factors such as dish size, lnbf placement, lnbf size. It will be much easier to set up 2 dishes, or get a Diseqc 1.2 mount to move the dish.

You will need a DiSEqC or 22Khz Switch to connect 2 dishes (LNBFs) to one cable. See http://sadoun.com/Sat/Order/Switches.htm

Re: how do I know the degree that I am on now

1. "Cheap way" : use the sat meter, but the problem is that you don't know where the dish aims at even the meter indicates locked signal.
2. "classic way": use receiver and small TV to tune the dish.
3 "easy but expensive" : use sat indetification meter (Birdog or Channel master), portible device, no receiver or TV required.
Sadoun has both of them.

I wish I could afford one the these toys...:-)
