I have a question about recievers. If I get a dsr922 will I also need a fta box to get the free stuff or will the 922 function as both. Also The way i read it, the 922 controls the dish position and has an imput for both c&ku eliminating the need for a diseq switch. Is this correct?

you'll need both receivers.
think of the fta box and 922 as "am" and "fm".

PMB is right you will need both the 922 will receive analog and digicipher II signals and the FTA receiver will get the DVB program.

Is this layout setting up the DSR922 to receive signal, but the DVB receiver to receive and control the motor?
Are there other options for wiring the two receivers to a couple of satellites? Can't you just daisy chain the receivers through a single coax with the one closest to the dishes being the controller receiver?

One receiver must be a Master, the other the slave. Most often the master does the dish moving and LNBF settings. The Slave receiver sort of "goes along for the ride" and shares the signal being gathered.

So in this instance the 922 does the dish moving, and H/V polarity setting. The signals are shared by the splitters. The switch allows the DVB receiver to go between C and Ku bands.
The dish used here is most likely a big dish, with acutator type mover. The 922 type receivers don't know anything about H-H motors or DISEQC signaling.

The other way to do it, is have the DVB receiver be the Master, with the 922 or analog box connected to the "loop out" or secondary IF out on the DVB box.
Now the DVB (via Vbox) moves the dish and controls the LNB. The 922 is now the slave, and will only see the satellite and polarity the LNB is set to from the DVB receiver.

Thanks for the option pmb1010. So it sounds like you could put the coax to the DVB receiver, and then connect a 922 to the IF coax, thus daisy chaining? Is there a diagram of this setup? It sounds like you would recommend the opposite to get more available stations?

Remember if you are going to do it this way a dc block is recommended.don't one to fry something.
