CCTV4/9 still FTA on G3C?
I tuned my dish to G3C, TP. 11780 SR 20.000, LNB localfreq 11750. At one time, I scanned with "ALL" channels option and got about 20 channels, all scrammbled. However, at some time, the signals were all disappeared(or very weak).
1). Is my dish alignment still off?
2). CCTV4/9 FTA no more?
Thanks in advance.

They are still there; try 11,780 MHz, 20,760 SR and HORIZONTAL. You'll pick 'em up.

Thanks, Kat.
Yesterday afternoon, I tried to align the dish, and got the signal level 97% and quality 0%(with Fortec star lifetime receiver). When I scanned for the channels, there was none to pick up. Where should I go from here?
I set:
LNB Type: standard
LNB LocalFreq: 10750
22KHz: On
DiSEDgC: Off
LNB Power: On
TP: 11780MHz/SR 20.760
Positioner Setting: Disabled

P.S. It's Horizontal

You must get quality before the receiver will scan any channels. Are you sure the LNB is standard and not universal? G3R has a killer signal so its easy to pick up. Its at 95 degrees west. Keep trying.

Kat,
Yes, I set LNB type to standard. Is LNB localfreq/10750 a correct setting(I got that from a friend's CCTV4 receiver's setting), or is it important? So, basically you are saying that my alignment is still off. I'll try harder this afternoon. Thanks.

Yes, it is important to set your receiver to match the type of LNB that you have; not that your friend's receiver has. Look on the LNB -- it should indicate the L.O. frequency; 10,750 MHz is for standard LNBs; 10,600 is for universal LNBs. This is crucial.

Kat and all experts,
Struggling for the alignment, I could not get the signal at the level bar any higher than 50%. Never seen any sign on the quality bar side
What I did was that I lined the dish to the Azimuth 204 S and the elevation about 40 degree. At this time, there was signal about 29% at the level bar (I was using the advanced scan mode). I tried to get the max signal by ajusting the Azithum/direction, then ajust the elevation to the maximum. And keep going back and forth. I have been doing this for quite a few sessions(about one hour per session). I don't think that my approach was right.
Again, my settings are: LNB Type-> Standard; Local Freguency 10750; TP11780/SR20.760.
Please help!!!

What kind of dish are you using? On some dishes (Fortec, etc.) the LNB must be set as far back in the holder as possible. Others, like Winegard, seem to get optimum signal with the LNB in the mid position. What type of LNB do you have (brand, identifying numbers, etc.). Give us some more info... :?
kat
BTW; where are you located?

Kat,
My dish is P1705-ADTH Single Output Digital Ku-LNBF with Input 11.7-12.2 GHz and Output 950-1450 MHz from Atlanta DTH Inc. My location: 40.373797 N, 80.072425 W (Pittsburgh area).
I tried to adjust the polarization as well. That helped a little. It's a nice day here. I am going to do it again.

Your LNB sounds to me like its a universal - so the local oscillator frequency should be 10,600 MHZ, but I could be wrong; it might be standard.
Pittsburgh, eh?? Hmmmm.....

You have a STANDARD lnbf with L.O. frequency of 10750.
Sorry Kat, had to correct your reply... 8)

Kat,
Thanks for pointing to the very informative thread. It seemed that my fellow PGHer pulled in AMC5 first. Is that a easier target here? Maybe, I should try that first. What would you advise?
Thanks.

G3C has a very strong signal; it should be easier to find this bird than AMC5. You could try Telstar 5 if you want; many more active transponders with FTA channels and it is very close to G3R (97 degrees for T5 and 95 degrees for G3R). Keep plugging away...

G3R is the old name for G3C. Basically, it is the same satellite.
