You are going to love the receiver. Once you get it and have it set up you need to go to satforums.com and get into the owners only area.

I'm curious re why you decided to get a 922 rather than a sidecar? Was it to make things more automatic (ie vs the additional complication of a slaved receiver)? I've always thought that the sidecar made more sense for someone familiar with slaving other receivers. I'd think it would make some of the "tricks" a bit easier to pull off.
Just curious.

the main reason was that the 4600 is getting a little long in the tooth as it is 15 years old so i figure it was time for a new receiver. be a shame to buy a sidecar then have to turn arround and buy another receiver.

I understand. My current receiver (Drake 1824) is about 12 yrs old, and is starting to show signs of dying. I really should do a capacitor job on it, however about 6 years ago, I bought a used Monty 50/55, which I figured would replace the Drake when it died, but the Drake just keeps on keeping on.
My previous receiver Echostar 7000 (HT8 clone) died after about 6 years. I bought a couple junker HT-8s trying to repair it, but accidently zapped it completely in the process. The receiver I had before that ( I think it's a Uniden 6000 or something) is still working fine, but it's a C-band only receiver. I replace that after only a couple years because I wanted to upgrade to Ku. Before the Uniden, I had some kind of LNA 70mhz receiver, that I got rid of after just a couple years when VCII came out. So basically, the only receiver I've had go bad has been the Echostar/HT.

So what you're saying is that a "sidecar" slaved off an analog receiver will receive everything a 922 will?
Whats the model number of a sidecar?

Sidecar
A sidecar is a 905. You can find them at Satforums and on E-bay. I had a 905 and bought a 922. Also the 922 has S-video out, digital coxial and can be connected to a HDD 200 to receive the HD channels. I have one of those as well. The picture is spectular. I throughly enjoy the ease of the IPG going to the correct satellite and channel automatically.
Beware the 920's will not pick up everything that a 922 will.
Go with NPS for your programming. Use John. His info can be found on the Satforums section.

Watch on your programming costs. NPS has good pricing on some/most but you can find much better deals on other channels going through other providers. You can also find less costly NPS programming through outside vendors than going direct although I have heard if you deal direct with John you will be treated well. At the time I did Starz/Encore the provider through Skyvision was considerably less expensive and I have had no problems with service. I do miss the days of 24/7 service though

Just to clarify,
The 920 and 922 are analog and digital, but only DCII digital, not DVB.
Also, the 905 4DTV is digital only, no analog, as it assumes you're getting analog via another receiver.
