Good for you! I am still trying to get back over to pull the pole for my latest venture. Good news though my neighbor just picked up a post hole auger (3 pt.) so digging the hole will be a breeze

I am still tilling and getting seed in the garden. Dish takes second place at this time and it is going in an area designated as garden this year

I wish I could grow a garden here. I used to have a nice garden on the 3 acres where we used to live, with berries and fruit trees. Then we moved up here onto 45 acres, and I figured we'd be able to grow all sorts of things. WRONG. Turns out in the woods, the soil is terrible. There is almost no place on the entire 45 acres that gets sunlight for more than a couple hours a day (which is also why I had problems finding a place to put a dish), plus when we did manage to get something to grow, as soon as it started growing, either the deer, hares, squirrels, porcupines or birds ate it before we could get to it. Our neighbors had to put up a 6' fence to try to keep out deer, but nothing keeps out the squirrels. It's amazing how fast squirrels can clean out a patch of tomatoes or strawberries. I'm not sure what ate the beans and peas, possibly the snowshoe hares. The ONLY thing we've gotten to grow up here is zuchinni, and even the zuchinnis get chewed up.

We gave up with tomatoes in the garden, so we put them in pots up on our deck. Unfortunately the squirrels don't have any problems getting up on a deck, and they were eating the tomatoes faster than they could grow. I put chicken wire cages around the tomatoes, but the squirrels would climb over or under and get inside. I have 3 dogs, and it was fun to see the squirrels panic when inside, when they'd see the dogs coming.
We gave up trying for a couple years, but we're trying again this year, hoping that the squirrels have forgotten.

I kinda' put my dishes to the side and been working on my 50'x110' small garden. Very time consuming, but the harvest makes it all worth while.

Close. Go down to the local farm supply store and buy the cheapest electric fence box you can find. Now string a wire around the area you want protected perhaps a couple wires. One low and one high. Now make up some strips of foil and hang them on the wire. Cover with peanut butter. Plug in.
Problem with many wild animals is fur when it comes to electric fences. They will lick the peanut butter long enough to get bit and that will keep them away. I suppose if food supply was short and the animal was very smart they would ignore the peanut butter.
My "dog" is 63% North American Grey Wolf and this is shedding season. I brush him out (which he loves) and save the fur. I spread it around the perimeter of the garden. I have no problems. Everyone wins (except the wild critters). They say human hair will do the same thing but I imagine that would take quite awhile to collect.
