I just came back from boating. Didn't catch any fish, but got some good pictures of loons.

Sat scans just go through the transponder freqs that are saved in your receiver (or as part of the default transponder list). Power scans will find transponders and channels even if they are not already saved. Sat scans and multisat scans don't do you any good unless the transponders saved in the receiver are up to date. When you are trying to locate satellites, you are best off using the transponder scan option.
I think I now understand where you got the Channel 20500 with the 22000 SR value. Sat IA5 has a transponder on 11874 with an SR of 22000. On G3c, there is a Hughesnet transponder with an SR of 21500. The Mercury and other blind scan receivers can lock on transponders even if the given SR value is off by quite a bit. If you did a blind scan, that would have saved as a 22000 SR. Anyway, I'm guessing that you are really aimed at G3c when your receiver thinks you are aimed at IA5 (G25) . As a test, you could create a manual transponder with freq=11780H with SR=20760, then do a transponder scan, I'll bet that you would scan in the CCTV channels on G3c even when your receiver thinks you are on IA5.
But the real problem is that you are either out of alignment OR out of sync. If you are just out of sync, you might try lying about your longitude by 2 degrees. Ie you said you were at 121W, which I assume you entered into USALS. You might experiment by subtracting 2 degrees and entering 119. This will make your dish move 2 degrees more to get to any sat. I'm sure it will work to get you some channels on IA5 and G3c, and it may work across the arc if you're just out of sync, however if you are out of alignment, it won't work across the arc, and you'll have to go back to basics to get the thing aligned.
