You sure are curious .
The HH-90 uses metal gears .
Pros and Cons.
1) Metal gears , until they get worn or broken, I believe to be more accurate with a better chance of positive positioning and have a higher efficiency of passing motor torque to moving the dish. ( My ignorant opinion only, but to me it makes sense ).
2) Nylon gears , like the
Moteck SG-2100 final output gear, is more tolerant of temperature extremes, and , to me, seems to be a deliberate "weak point " of the system, much like a brass shear pin , so that should undue strain be put on the system, that nylon gear will be the point of failure ( easily replaceable ) . I think of it as a mechanical version of a fuse.
I'm not a fan of built-in Diseqc switches ( nor am I a fan of TV/VCR combos, or camera/cellphones, etc ) . I prefer inexpensive discrete components to inexpensive combination critters. Everything breaks, so my decision would be to have everything easily repairable or replaceable.
The
sm3d22 has a built in switch, but I think it's primary use is for double lnbf applications on a single dish , which is probably a niche market .
There you have it, I've probably disgraced myself again !
