Rudy,
I'd upgrade to a 90cm dish on the mkit1, and expect much better results. From Maine, I wouldn't expect you'd get too far over the Pacific, but certainly to the east , you should have good luck. Figure that your longitude +- 70 degrees of motor rotation as your approximate range for hitting birds.
