We are trying to get as easy linux version so that anyone new or old can use it without the torture. New pclinux version should be out by early Feb 2007 testing it now.

I am working with pclinux and videolinux guy's to get a nice working linux distro that will support most of the PCI sat / tv cards as well as the usb one's. Dreambox on a pc.

This way it would be easy packages similar to windows setup files , click and run.

Looking now at the pclinux control panel and there is the "setup your tv card" option with plenty cards already supported not sure about the satellite cards.

The Love of Linux / Hardware Database this is a link that might help you as well.

If it was not for the fact that I get internet via cable I would have canceled as well.
Thanks for the link I'll definitely check it out! Part of the reason I was attracted to KnoppMyth is that I use Knoppix already (It's based on Debian) and has *excellent* hardware detection scripts. KnoppMyth is meant to be as simple as possible, assuming you have supported hardware.

Man it was tough leaving the cable - I had internet access through my cable company as well, but switched to DSL and have been very happy with it. It's stable, fast, and it's only costing $20/month - woo yay!

The new antenna is working well so at least we're getting good reception on all the big networks - the wife's happy she's not missing her shows. We're missing the DVR more than the cable at this point!

Good luck with the linux distro! Geekier the better!
