THat should work, but assuming it's one of those
SF95 meters, mine usually starts squealing when only connected to the receiver coax, at least when I turn the little dial all the way. If it squeals, then this shows that it's getting voltage there. Then connect the motor, and see if it's still squealing, then put it after the motor. You should be able to narrow it down. But what I'm really hoping is that you'll take off some coax and find that the center conductor is bent over and shorting out. I know that happened to me once.
Also, I assume you tried moving motor by pushing buttons on the motor too?
Also, you mentioned not having manual for your receiver. I'm not familiar with your receiver, but most receivers have a setting that turns ON LNBF POWER. Make sure that it is turned on. However, the fact that your receiver is clicking when you connect the coax, sure sounds like something is shorted.
