Shipping all depends on many factors but basically boils down to a few. Class and weight. Many times a LTL carrier is far less expensive than using UPS or a carrier like UPS. Other times UPS is extremely reasonable. Liftgate charges are for loads requiring unloading or loading where a dock and forklift are not available. So if you ordered 500lbs of widgets and they were all on one skid and you had no forklift or dock to unload you would require a liftgate equipped truck.
If moving up to a 1m dish was such a considerable increase in cost for shipping were you looking at LTL or only someone like DHL? Once you exceed the package size parameters the costs increase considerably. Basically you should be able to negotiate a shipping costs of $.2854 per mile per skid with the skid being defined as 48"x48"x96" and < 1667 lbs.
