Sales and use tax are technically not "free".
Here in NY, we are required by state law to pay tax on any out of state purchase on an item.
They have made it "convienent" to do so, in fact have placed an entry on our state tax return form to calculate your online purchases to pay for this tax.
Ohio might not have a what's called a repriocity agreement with NY, and your sales records are not shared. Maybe they are, I dont know. But I do know, years ago I bought a computer from a store in Texas, and a couple months later I got an invoice from NY State Tax dept, asking for the tax due, penalty and interest. Evidently that seller shared their information and sales list with NY.
The point I'm trying to make is even though you think you "save taxes" by buying out of state, all's one really does is break the law by avoiding the tax.
This is a public forum and I must say I report and pay all tax for online purchases.
