I think I may have been one of the sources of the "needs to be authorized" information. I think that the channel in question is what they call "FP" or fixed process. DCII, like DVB is MPGE2, but is entirely different from DVB, and can't be received by FTA DVB receivers. "Free" programs in the DCII format can be either in ZK mode (zero key), which means not encrypted, or in FP mode, which means encrypted with a Fixed key, known to all GI/Motorola DCII receivers. So a lot of things that are labeled as "FREE" on lyngsat are not really free, unless you have a GI/Motorola recever, and even then may not be free. I don't have a 4DTV, but instead have a 4200 receiver, which is very similar to one of the 4DTV sidecars. Those 4200 receivers, can receive ZK transmissions out of the box, but cannot receive FP transmissions until they have been authorized. After that, they can receive ANY FP transmission, even if they are no longer authorized for anything. I don't know if this is true for other models of DCII receivers or not. In fact, it WAS NOT true for even 4200 receivers that accidently caught an upload of some nasty firmware that was being uploaded by KET on AMC1, about 7 or 8 years ago. This made many 4200 owners very unhappy, because it turned their receivers into a boat anchor that were useless, except for ZK transmissions, and the only ZK things were those music channels. However GI at that time did those 4200 owners a BIG favor, after many complained, and sent a representative to the KET uplink site, and gave them a new firmware version to upload, and told the hobbiests to grab that version of firmware, which rescued their receivers so they could once again receive FP transmissions. I was not caught by the BAD firmware, but I uploaded the new version just in case.
I've since learned that there are several different version of these GI/Motorola DCII receivers, and each behaves very differently with respect to being able to tune these channels.
Anyway, when you see "Free" next to a DCII channel, it may or may not really be free for the specific receiver you are using, but it will definately require a GI/Motorola DCII receiver of some kind.
