You have a very good point, but it's not completely true...:-(
Dish hardware is free or it only costs very little $ if you sub to their service for a year.
Also, none of the DVB PCI has phone line which DN uses to communicate to the receivers.
Without phoneline, subcribers have to call them to order PPV. Too much hassle for them.

I wouldn't go out and buy a new setup just for Dish programing, but probably would subscribe if it was available via my current DVB setups.
(At least maybe to get the NHL center ice packages and such that aren't available to big dish users.)
