The main GPTV channel isn't encrypted (actually FP, fixed process), althought their PeachStar channel is encrypted. In fact GPTV is the first digital satellite signal I ever tuned to (good reason for that), and I still tune it in occasionally, but usually just tune to the main
PBS signals, because GPTV doesn't carry my favorite show anymore (Woodwright Shop). :-(
THe GPTV signal used to have the Peachstar thing, FP too, but it went encrypted a while back. But I agree with what you say, and it really annoys me when the PBS people complain about people watching their signals, claiming that they are private transmissions. They wouldn't have ANY transmissions if it wasn't for the tax dollars and public funding heading their way. Yet they are doing everything they can to hide their transmissions from us, and are now switching for a video on demand internet service that will probably cut us off from a good portion of the PBS signals we're seeing on sat now. :-(
