Irdeto is an encryption. It requires an Irdeto capable receiver (either a CI or embedded) and a subscription to the channel. Same for Nagravision, Conax and a handful of others. Programming (premium) is scarce in the US at the moment but there are a couple of providers. Non English channels though to the best of my recollection.

I have an embedded Irdeto receiver that I do not have hooked up at the moment but plan to just to see if it is similiar to DigicipherII. Some channels are clear with the correct decoder and some are pay. Just a theory I have yet to investigate.
