I have a Starbox and it works great! First of all, trying to lock signal using DVB is not a good idea. It's actually a terrible idea. DVB cards are not built to detect signal. SO what you need to do is find signal using a signal meter and/or an FTA receiver. Once you get the signal and ensure you're on the right bird, then you can start playing with you DVB box. Most people move from FTA receiver to DVB..it's just a natural transition since it's much easier to learn about FTA using an STB as opposed to DVB. Get yourself a cheap fta receiver you won't regret it.
Also, try using MyTheatre as a software. It's the easiest and most reliable.

My suggestion is to first install mytheatre. I can give detailed instructions after that if you wish. It lets you try it out for one hour before it shuts down automatically. But that's plenty of time to get it all configured.
