If you're getting good reception from w7 to w9 it sounds like you are pretty darn close. I would try the simple lift up/down technique on the dish and see if you notice any signal increase.Then adjust slightly according to axamples given at the site mentioned earlier if needed.
Do you have ku on the 4dtv-big dish? If so can you get PBSX on k3 channel 600? If you can get that then I would say you were pretty close on setup.
When receiving k5 @ 79 on the fta receiver, is it on the same dish or a little dish?
There's an anolog channel on # 24
c band on w6 @ 72deg you should be able to get on the 4dtv unit. Other than that there's not a lot there until you get to P9. Not a lot there either for the 4dtv, but you should be able to lock some digital signals to confirm where you are.
As for the count: as long as the receiver is positioning the dish correctly each time it moves from one sat to another, I wouldn't worry about it. The higher the count the better the accuracy in pinpointing the strongest signal.You can always reset the e/w limits in the receiver if the sat you are looking for is outside of what is programed.
