To ask about subscribing to TAN, call their Los Angeles office (323-465-1100). If you speak Korean, anyone there can help you out. If you don’t speak Korean, ask for “David,” since he’s the only person there who seems to be truly bilingual.

Either way, you can ask about subscription costs. As I recall, I’m paying $28 monthly, but their subscription rates always seem to be changing. Be sure to ask about any special promotions they might have going – you could save some money on the smart card receiver you need to receive TAN.

Anyway, I can usually get ImagineAsian on G10R (except for a few hours in the morning for some reason), but it has AC3 audio. and I don't have the right type of stereo-receiver for it. My Fortec will do AC3, so I should look around for a cheapy stereo....
Now . . . as far as ImaginAsian goes, well that’s been a sore spot for me. When they went to (they say . . .) AC3 audio about six months ago, I tried running the S/PDIF output from my Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra into several AC3-capable receivers – and still couldn’t hear anything. I posted this information on the (now defunct) ImaginAsian discussion board, and another correspondent chimed in with similar comments, even noting that his system *did* decode the AC3 audio on PBS okay, but wouldn’t do anything with ImaginAsian’s audio signal.

However, a third person insisted that we were technical morons, and that all we needed to do was to hook up the digital audio out to the coaxial-in jack (he said was using an El Cheapo RCA receiver that he bought at Wal-Mart) and ImaginAsian’s new audio was being decoded just fine for him. Go figure!

A pity that the thread on this subject disappeared when ImaginAsian took down their discussion board – probably because it was almost entirely filled with complaints about ImaginAsian! But, their only official comment in this regard was that they had made “adjustments to the AC3 audio” (whatever that’s supposed to mean) and that we would have to “contact our satellite supplier” to find out how to decode their new audio standard.

Any suggestions from all the satellite gurus here at the Sadoun board would be most welcome.
