Well, that depends on whether you can see the ends of the lag screws protruding through the underside of the 2X4. If you can't, then no big deal; let them protrude. If you can see them then I suggest using lag
bolts rather than screws; at least it looks cleaner to see a nut and bolt rather than a sharp screw; safer too.
