You are correct the dpp swithes are dumb devices. but the software in dish receivers gets updated through the dish periodically. Dish networks sends software updates out through the satellite about every 6 weeks or so.

I would go ahead and let Dish install the second dish beings its free. if you have all dp equipment the may go ahead and put a dp 34 or dpp 44 in.
Worst case if you have 2 existing receivers they will put 2 dp 21 switches. But you can easily sell those later on ebay and get the switch you need.

Dpp is kick ass and will save alot of headaches. The problem has been with the seperators not the dpp 44. Like I said Dish is supposed to be getting the final bugs worked out. But it is bleeding edge. The cool thing with a dpp 44 is it can run off a dp twin and can run both legacy and dp receivers.
